Heck Lectures

J. Arthur HeckThe J. Arthur Heck Lectures were established by the Alumni Association to honor the life and work of Dr. J. Arthur Heck, former President and Professor of Systematic Theology at United.

They are delivered each spring in conjunctison with the Spring Convocation and the gathering of United graduates from around the country.

The Heck Lectures are intended to relate the world of research to the practice of ministry.

Ryterband Symposium

The Ryterband Symposium (formerly known as the Sanders Symposium) is a joint venture of United Theological Seminary, The University of Dayton, and Wright State University.

It is made possible by a generous contribution from Dr. and Mrs. Louis Ryterband and their sister, Mrs. Natalie Roth.

The purpose of the annual fall symposium is to help promote better understanding between the major religious groups in the Greater Dayton Area.

Showers Lectures

J. Balmer ShowersThe J. Balmer Showers Lectures were established in 1964 by Mrs. Justina Showers, wife of Bishop J. Balmer Showers (class of 1910). Bishop Showers taught New Testament at Bonebrake Seminary from 1910-26 and was an editor and publisher of the United Brethren Church from 1926-45, when he was elected bishop.

The lectures are ordinarily scheduled during the fall semester.

The Showers Lectures intend to continue the intellectual tradition of the seminary by featuring speakers who are breaking new ground in research in biblical studies, theology, and church history.
