1 | United’s Theological Emphasis
We are committed to teaching the historic Christian faith, instilling a passion for what it means to love God and neighbor, and renewing the church for its mission in the world.
2 | Our Faculty
All of our residential faculty hold doctorates and remain on the leading edge of their disciplines. Many have had full-time pastoral experience, and continue to provide leadership in local churches. We also have outstanding adjunct faculty members.
3 | Tuition Costs
Many students graduate from seminary with significant debt, and therefore we make every effort to keep our tuition costs low. A quick comparison with other accredited seminaries’ cost per credit hour will show that United is among the most reasonable. We are also committed to working with students for the provision of necessary scholarship money.
4 | Denominational Diversity
While we are a seminary of the United Methodist Church, we welcome students from across the denominational spectrum. At United, you will find students from the Presbyterian, Baptist, Wesleyan Holiness, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, UCC, and Episcopal traditions, to name a few.
5 | Our 78-Hour Degree Program
Our tightly structured Master of Divinity program aims to provide students with essential training to equip them for ministry without keeping them in school longer than is necessary.
6 | Distinguished Alumni/ae
Our alumni/ae can be found in all fifty states and thirty countries. A number of our alums such as Michael Slaughter, Bishop Linda Lee, and Ivan Douglas Hicks continue to be directly involved in United’s ministry of pastoral preparation.
7 | Flexible Schedule
We know that many people don’t fit into the “traditional” student model. To meet the needs of our students, we offer day, evening, and weekend classes. A number of classes each year are available in intensive formats.
8 | Our Doctor of Ministry Program
In United’s Doctor of Ministry program, experienced pastors can refine pastoral skills in focused areas of study. Our D. Min. students have the opportunity to learn from distinguished church leaders from around the country. Our group-based model allows students and mentors to participate in this program even if they live at a considerable distance from Dayton.
9 | Class Size
Class sizes at United are small enough that professors are accessible both within and outside of the classroom. We are self-consciously a learning community in which our interaction with one another is a crucial part of the educational experience.
10 | Distance Learning
A number of courses each year are available in online and hybrid (partially online) formats. Through United Online, our portal to online learning, students can access course materials at their convenience.
