The Missional Church
Dr. Michael Slaughter and Dr. Duane Anders
This Doctor of Ministry group will explore the identity of the Missional Church and its passion to get the church into the world, rather than the world into the church. The Missional Church emphasizes not how many are attending, but how many are serving. Participants will engage how to reclaim the apostolic DNA of the early church, which is a refocus on the call to become a disciple of Christ rather than simply making a decision for Christ. By minimizing brick and maximizing mission the Missional Church of the present and future concentrates on the micro rather than the macro of the church growth movement, seeking multiplication through planting and starting new worship venues instead of expansion (getting bigger in one place)
Additional requirements for admission to the Missional Church Doctor of Ministry group (submit in writing): a) Has a passion to grow a missional movement of at least 1000 in attendance, and has already shown significant growth in the local church; b) Has demonstrated courage to lead in the face of resistance, and has shown the ability to articulate and create an environment of change (provide example); c) Has already established one or more outreach ministries (good pantry, recovery groups, clothing ministry, etc.); d) Must provide a preaching/teaching DVD sample.
