Prophetic Preaching for the Black Church in the 21st Century
Rudolph McKissick
The focus of this cohort will be to examine the biblical, theological and historical understanding and meaning of standing in the prophetic tradition within the context of sermonic presentation. In so doing, we will seek to come to an understanding of what it meant to be prophetic within the context of community and how that same tradition should be mirrored in this day and time. We will seek to answer questions such as, “What is prophetic preaching?”; “Why was prophetic preaching necessary?”; “What did prophetic preaching accomplish?” Finally, upon establishing a proper understanding of the prophetic tradition, we will take a critical look at current “prophetic” preaching and how it is strayed from biblical tradition.
