Unlike other lectionary commentaries, this series offers preachers extensive liturgical advice for worship planning. Each volume begins with a chapter on the theological meaning of the season, its relation to the overall Christian Year, and specific liturgical suggestions.

For each Sunday and special day of the year, the books show how the focus on the Church year can be integrated through worship, music color, and the proclamation of the Word. After Pentecost 2 includes lections for the fall; After Pentecost 1 takes the preacher through the summer.
