Dr. David F. Watson III was installed as Academic Dean of United Theological Seminary at the school’s 141st Opening Convocation, held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Dr. Watson was also the featured speaker, on the topic, "Reading for Renewal."
Watson, who was appointed as Academic Dean, effective July 1, is also Associate Professor of New Testament and was formerly Associate Dean for Masters Studies. A native of Texas, he received a B.A. from Texas Tech University, an M.Div. from Perkins School of Theology, and a Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University. He recently published a monograph entitled “Honor Among Christians: The Cultural Key to the Messianic Secret,” and is currently co-editing a book with Joel B. Green on Wesleyan interpretation of scripture. His ongoing research interests include the Gospel of Mark and the Bible and disabilities.
David is also an ordained elder in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and serves on the West Ohio Inclusive Body of Christ Ministry Team for People with Disabilities and the Miami Valley District Committee on Ordained Ministry. His wife, Harriet, is a native of England, and they have two children, Luke and Sean.
